Top items to avoid storing in your unit!

As we start transitioning into the cooler months, you may start thinking about clearing out the garage to make room for your car, packing up those summer toys, and investing in a storage unit. We’ve got a space waiting for you!

It’s important to note, however, there are some items that are not permitted in our units. Before moving into your unit, check out our list of what NOT to store.

Hazardous, Toxic, or Flammable Materials: Storing any kind of hazardous materials will increase the risk of dangerous incidents. These items include, but are not limited to:

  • Gasoline
  • Kerosene
  • Propane Tanks
  • Paint
  • Fireworks
  • Firearms
  • Hazardous or Toxic Waste

Plants: We don’t recommend storing plants in your unit because it can attract pests and result in an infestation. Arkansas Self Storage does conduct regular pest control inspections, but we recommend refraining from keeping any outdoor plants or houseplants in your storage unit.

Perishable Food: Obviously foods that require refrigeration will not sit well in a storage unit, but it’s also important to note that foods such as rice, cereal, and pet food can raise problems. Items such as deer corn attract bugs and rodents and are not recommended for storing. Canned goods, however, are permitted in our storage units as long as the packaging is sealed and in good condition.

Pets & People: This should go without saying, but storing a pet or person in a storage unit is illegal and puts everyone at risk. Don’t do it!

If you have any questions or hesitations regarding storing items in your unit, please give us a call. We’d be happy to help!
